Pulwama, May 02 (KNO): Local residents in this southern district of Kashmir have demanded immediate action to widen the narrow spots on the vital Pulwama-Awantipora route to prevent traffic jams and accidents.
According to locals, who spoke to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the narrowness of the road at some points from Pulwama-Awantipora results in traffic jams.
"The government must take urgent steps to widen this important road," said Rizwan Mudasir Ahmad, a social activist from Koil Pulwama.
He said the road is currently lying in dilapidated condition at several spots and there is an immediate need of repairing this road.
Locals urged the government to pay particular attention to Koil village where the narrowness of the road has resulted in a number of accidents, adding that the narrowness of this vital road connecting Awantipora, Tral, and other areas with the district headquarters has also resulted in traffic jams.
Gowhar Ahmad, a government employee from Awantipora area, said that the dilapidated condition of the road and narrowness is giving tough times to daily passengers. He said that students, elderly people and employees are the worst sufferers.
Despite repeated appeals to the higher authorities, locals complain that nothing has been done on the ground.
Residents urged the government to pay serious attention to the matter and take immediate action to widen the road.
They have sought the attention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard—(KNO)
